Oakcroft is a traditional family-run farm in the heart of Devon's beautiful and unspoiled countryside. For a relaxing holiday or short break away from it all, come and visit our delightful Devon farmhouse B & B, where warm and comfortable rooms and good local food will combine to give you a wonderful stay.
We welcome all our guests on arrival with a complimentary 'tea' (your choice of tea or coffee and home baked cakes or biscuits) and pride ourselves on our farmhouse breakfast menu of local and home-grown produce.
Devon and Cornwall are ideal for outdoor leisure activities, and so we offer our guests plenty of space for drying coats and boots, dry storage for bicycles, and tasty packed lunches if you want to make a day of it. We can also offer evening meals by prior arrangement, made from locally sourced and home grown produce. Meals can range from home made pies and casseroles through to a traditional roast depending on your preference (£12-£20 per person). We also welcome guests on business and are happy to arrange early breakfasts to suit you, and we provide internet access points in the rooms.
The Farmhouse
Oakcroft is newly built farmhouse, built in a traditional manner by a local builder using locally sourced materials wherever possible, and using only local tradesmen for the plumbing, wiring and carpentry and decoration involved. It benefits from underfloor heating throughout the entire house, is well insulated and double glazed, giving a living environment that is both carbon neutral and very comfortable. The house is heated by a ground source heat pump, we use 'green' electricity, and the water comes from our own bore-hole. We aim to minimise the environmental impact of our B & B as much as possible, whether by serving local produce at breakfast or using green energy to heat and light our home.
The Farm
Our Bed and Breakfast is situated on a working farm in the
Ruby Country, so you may well encounter farmyard sights and sounds. Our secluded location in the heart of agricultural Devon means that there is minimal noise and light pollution, ideal for stargazing or just enjoying the peace and quiet. Our farm borders an old woodland and is surrounded by both mature hedges and non-intensive grassland, which means that we benefit from a large variety of wildlife, especially birds. Through the seasons you might see or hear foxes, roe deer, badgers and hedgehogs. Larger birds such as buzzards, crows or ravens are often to be seen or heard soaring overhead or perched on a post watching for dinner. The dawn chorus has to be heard to be believed, and at dusk and dawn owls are often heard calling. Many small song birds visit our bird tables and feeders throughout the year and nest nearby or even in the eaves of the house. In the winter, flocks of long-tailed tits are a special delight and for those who enjoy spotting migrant waterfowl,
Roadford Lake is within easy reach, hosting many winter visitors and is also an excellent place to see skylarks.
